Aaaahhh…hh..hh…..after an almost 3-month hiatus of non blogging, here I am now on a Saturday night in front of my cute rose gold MacBook, Spotify Chillhop music filling in the cool night calm, re-oiling this brain to get back into amateur-food-writer-wannabe mode. Got myself a mug of delicious Singapore Breakfast from T2 (and I’m not usually a tea drinker! The roasted rice, coconut and pandan lured me in…) to get me started on my delightful dining in Butcher and The Farmer, Tramsheds in Glebe for my hubby’s special birthday lunch ❤

But first, thought I’d re-cap on my most major happenings ever since my last blog post…

Going back to work full time! YAY because….I get to see PEOPLE and work and interact with peers in the creative space I’m more used to (compared to mummyhood)!

NAY because….won’t get to see Josie as much 😦 weird how it’s awesome and sad at the same time! #workingparentlifeaye

Biggest emotional challenge I’ve ever experienced my whole adult life : my beloved grandma passing away, 1 day before her big 90th.

The impact it has on our family is unspeakable – a loss that left a gaping hole in our hearts. Even now as I look at her photo, can’t quite believe she is gone. Her departure had brought us even closer as a family, and made me learn to appreciate our loved ones even more, because you simply just cannot take people you love for granted. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Oma, for being such a blessing to our family. You have lived a fruitful life on earth, we are proud of you. You are forever our guardian angel ❤ we love you SO MUCH.

Eric’s Birthday Lunch 4 August

On that note, I’ll get back on the present – spoiling the hubby on his special day at The Butcher and The Farmer.

“For the love of food, the land and the vines” – butcherandthefarmer.com

With a base motto like so, I find it irresistible not to peek at their menu list, or drool over what I discovered there!

Fresh, seasonal produce with a twist? yes please! I mean, pea & parmesan croquette…calamari in black garlic aioli….sausage and hummus plate…and many other tantalising dishes? YUM! and let’s be honest, anything more than fish & chips in a kids menu is an extra bonus plus for me!

All aboard!

Lil miss (very seriously) looking at the wine list
Roasted carrots with tzatziki, raddicchio, pistachio, honey

Loving the pistachio details on the dish and the slight bitter sweetness of the raddicchio adds that touch of compatibility on the palate, with the generous amount of roasted carrots. I do wished that the carrots were a little more toasty and charred though…

Duck breast w pumpkin hummus, pickled cauliflower, orange and star anise syrup, baby leeks, seeds

The sweet pumpkin hummus and the juicy, tender and slightly smoky breast make an interesting pair. I have to say I’m not a big fan of the dish because of the after taste of the meat, but all in all an okay dish for me.

Pea & parmesan croquette with truffled mayonnaise
Close-up of croquette

My, oh my, how the humble pea shone! This little starter won us over from first bite…First you get the crunchy, second you get the sharpness of parmesan shaving then a split micro-second later, the cheesy pea-mash filling. Only thing, we wanted MORE! What a teaser for the tastebuds! Great texture and flavour combo – everything just works perfectly well.

Kids meal chicken tenderloins w fries

Mojito & Moscow Mule
Sausage and hummus plate w feta, pomegranate, pepitas, watercress served with corn tortillas (pic below)

My favourite dish of the lot. There is a sense of authenticity, freshness and detail about the tender and well seasoned sausage, that presented to me the great care and craft that had gone into making it – could not fault it and enjoyed every bite!

Corn tortillas
Earl grey and chocolate cake w vanilla bean mascarpone

An absolute go-to dessert heaven. Melt-in-your-mouth, chocolatey sweetness level that is perfect for non sweet tooth person like Eric and I.

Verdict : ABSOLUTELY recommendable! Already mulling over which to order the next time round – crispy skin salmon, rolled pork belly or wagyu burger?? how about the apply rumble or donut ice cream sandwich?! oh dear….
