We love grabbing lunch around Chatswood for its convenience and variety of food available!
So when it comes to lunchtime after Sunday mass, our hungry tummies brought us to Spago, a newly opened modern Italian restaurant. It was our first time there and we were anticipating culinary greatness, as it’s usually packed which is always a good sign 😉
I like the airiness of the place, lots of light and not cramped even though its not a huge space. Also, the wait was less than 5 minutes even though the place was packed.

The menu list has an honest, hearty, proudly Italian feel with no pretence – don’t know if its just me being dramatic here. The consistency in the fonts used, easy to understand menu list, simplistic style carried throughout the whole restaurant, and the little touches here and there (pretty flowers in vases) seem to speak to me of genuine love of Italian food with a modern touch.
Only thing was, the round wooden table was a little cramped for the three of us, mostly because Josie will want to grab everything and throw them around. We had to work out a way to keep her a safe distance from everything. On that note, over time we’ve learned to almost instinctively and swiftly grab whatever she managed to get her little hands on whenever we are caught off-guard, before she chucked them to the floor (or at someone). I’m amazed at how much kids can “train” us….
I settled on fettuccine ai funghi, Eric ordered the fettuccine ai boscaiola and for Josie, fettuccine bolognese. As new parents, we are always extra grateful when a restaurant provides options for kids meals ❤ It saves us worry about what to feed the little one when out and about.

Sometimes you can tell when a meal is going to be great, or not, just by looking at it. But that first bite, will usually determine the rest of the experience.
The pastas we ordered were a dream ❤
Well seasoned, the noodles were perfectly al dente, the sauce just the right amount of creamy and tasty. I am a sauce girl, I love my sauces – chilli, creamy, tangy, garlicky, gotta have ’em on my food.
How my fettuccine ai funghi made me feel – like being serenaded by a mariachi band on a seaside restaurant, overlooking the ocean, on a gorgeous warm afternoon with a slight breeze…..
Josie’s noodles were a touch softer, as it should because it was kids’ meals. The garlic and tomato married so well in the bolognese sauce… I mean, look at her go 😀

Always love when she devours her food ❤
The only thing I wished they’d had more of were a touch of fresh parsley and an even ratio of porcini to oyster mushrooms. There were mostly porcini and just two or three tiny slivers of oyster mushrooms.
With that said, Spago will definitely be a regular place for us to visit in the near future! Delizioso~!
